It was one hell of a way to wake up. Had the whole house shaking pretty well. Reasonable bit of structural damage round town but nothing too serious

ITS NOT LOOKING TOO GOOD, MUST BE VERY SCARY TOO,

The central city is worse than the suburb I'm in.

It was scary. Not so bad during the light of day. But now it's getting dark again the aftershocks are feeling scarier.

It was damn scary at the time - thankfully no damage where I am, best wishes and sympathies to those who have been hard hit.

Yes it was a shock. The only good thing is that it was 4.30am, if it had happened at 4.30pm i am sure we would be mourning many. I was in the city
today checking my office and the damage is terrible. However as Cantabrians we will band together and move on.
Thanks to all you fellow Kiwis for thinking of us

I also wish to say thanks to all those students for there good work, BUT THE BAD POINT IS ALL THOSE SCUMBAGS WHO GO AROUND MOVING ROAD CONES PUT OUT BY COUNCIL PROTECTING MOTORISTS FROM UNEVEN SURFACES AND CRACKS AND HOLES IN THE ROAD CAUSED BY THE EARTHQUAKE.

maybe one day they themselves will be driving somewhere and someone would have moved some cones causing them to drive into a hole ....... aint Kharma a bitch :p

Going by Geonet.org.nz the cantabrians, while having a few quakes had a bit quieter night.
A friend had their shop cleared as OK ... went in the next morning to open... the 5.1 hit and damaged his shop to render it unopenable ....... gotta be a hell of a hard job for the assessors and civil defence at the mo eh.
