I think you have to get used to how the young ones talk and write in this modern age.

I agree. In these days of autocorrect it should be quite easy to write properly. But that’s only my view how others want to write is up to them. I guess so long as we can understand what they are trying to say it’s all good

Understandable is fine, although meaning can change in the flash of an apostrophe, colon, or semi-colon. An enjoyable read is the book Eats, Shoots & Leaves for understanding punctuation use and change. I just don't think it is a 'youth' thing; the era and area we were 'schooled' makes a difference to word use and spelling.

not just you !
deliberate use of lower case ee cummings style is fine.
but when someone writes a long-winded paragraph as a continuous sentence without punctuation, it's near impossible to read.
that's a fail.

Me too! I laugh inwardly about the fact that atrocious spelling, bad grammar and non-existent punctuation (especially in an 'applicants' initial message) shouldn't have an impact on, nor be a prerequisite for, whether I reply or wish to have him as a sex partner. It just does...Neanderthals need not apply 🙄

I think on the flip side of this coin, that many find correct spelling, grammar and, punctuation either, intimidating, 'snobby' or 'incomprehensible'? As it does not fit with txt spk/typn or their communication style.

Touche, totally agree and to each their own, of course. Personally, being of a certain vintage and excelling at English at school, it went against the grain for quite some time to not use correct, spelling, grammar and punctuation when texting etc. I can, and do now, use txt speak, emojis, acronyms and the like. Seems you can teach an old dog (or bitch) new tricks

I applaud your ability to change, I simply find it rather 'uncomfortable'? To undo what was taught. Or, maybe, I simply won't down skill?

One of the worst has got to be people who don't realise a sentence should start with a capital letter.

Is their an emoji for "taking the piss" ??

Autocorrect is often American-English biased, hence "u" gets dropped from "colour," and so forth. Misuse of "to, too and two is irksome.
Here are some more:
Tire (being fatigued) and tyre (rubber around the outside of a wheel);
Your (possessive), You're (you are), yaw (movement term) and yore (long ago);
Does and dose. Abject laziness!
Math, rather than maths. It's a plural, people.
And lastly, the term "pacific," e.g. "Can you be more pacific?" The Pacific is an ocean. Pacific also derives from pacify, or peace encouraging. For those of you who use this term, the word you require is "specific."

I find that most young ones write well. I think people who grew up with old first gen text apps on their phones are the worst. They still use all the shortened text speak abbreviations.

bad writing can be from young or old,
witness the recent gaff from a us congresswoman who confused "gazpacho" and "gestapo"

Their-ownership as in heir.
There-place as in here.
They're-apostrophe denotes a missing letter i.e. they are.

Bad Grammar..,seriously, a turn off !!. If she wants to kiss and cuddle, fondle and suck , text speak or Morse code will do by me ,
Posted on 17-Feb-22 11:23AM
So glad I'm not the only one who has that issue with pacific/specific. Had a friend for years who only ever used 'Pacific' and I just wanted to slap the correct term into her. I agree with a previous poster that it isn't just the younger generation that uses 'text speak' in messages, I've had it in messages from guys aged in their twenties all the way to sixties

If Yuo’re Albe To Raed Tihs, You Might Have Typoglycemia
Published January 21, 20

Ever heard of typoglycemia? Even if you haven’t, chances are you’ll recognize one of the viral puzzles that explains this phenomenon. Starting around , an email circulated through what seems like every inbox claiming that scrambled English words are just as easy to read as the original words.

However, as cool as the original email was, it didn’t actually tell the whole truth. There’s more to scrambled words than meets the eye.

What is typoglycemia?
That viral email tested our ability to read scrambled words. Here’s what it looks like:

Aoccdrnig to a rscheearch at Cmabrigde Uinervtisy, it deosn’t mttaer in waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, the olny iprmoetnt tihng is taht the frist and lsat ltteer be at the rghit pclae. I thought this was something everyone could do... It's easier to transpose it to correction than to read as it's written [most likely due to as written, it forms gibberish] 😅
